If there is one piece of advice I could give everyone on health and nutrition it's that dieting doesn't work, well not in the long term anyway. Only 10% of people who lose weight through dieting keep that weight off in their first year after losing the weight. After that, a further 5% of those people keep it off in their second year.

There is a big difference between dieting and eating healthily. For you to succeed in your weight loss goals you need to make a conscious decision to change your lifestyle and that lifestyle change should incorporate exercise and healthy balanced nutrition.

Making that lifestyle change is a hard step to take, believe me I've been there and failed on a fair few occasions. There are so many diets in the world today, it's scary. The majority just offer 'quick-fixes' but never anything permanent or sustainable. That is why so many people yo-yo up and down with their weight and jump from one diet to the next, becoming more and more disillusioned every time they fail.

Which is why I maintain that people need to change their lifestyle, and this will only happen when they are both physically, and most importantly, mentally ready to do so.
